2001 Windsor Studio's VFX Apprenticeship Program is an immersive, project-based training experience for emerging digital artists, developed in partnership with local colleges, universities, and industry professionals. Designed for upper-level undergraduates, graduate students, and recent alumni, this program offers hands-on production experience in a fully operational, commercial VFX studio.

Participants learn by doing—working on real-world projects including short films, music videos, branded content, and virtual productions for broadcast and streaming clients. The program bridges the gap between classroom theory and industry execution, providing students with tangible credits, professional mentorship, and a career-launching portfolio.

Students train and work inside the studio's live production pipeline, utilizing:

  • Green screen soundstages

  • LED volume virtual production stages

  • Motion capture technology

  • Post-production editing bays

  • 3D modeling and animation labs

  • Fabrication and scenic design shops

Module 1: Introduction to Studio VFX Production
 

  • Overview of VFX pipelines and project lifecycles
     

  • Roles within a studio environment (previs, FX, compositing, etc.)
     

  • Safety, etiquette, and workflow inside professional sets
     

Learning Outcome: Students will understand the scope and sequence of VFX production and the hierarchy of roles.

Module 2: Technical Training & Software Mastery
 

  • Adobe Creative Suite for VFX
     

  • Autodesk Maya / Blender (Modeling, Animation, Rigging)
     

  • Unreal Engine for virtual production
     

  • Nuke / After Effects for compositing
     

  • MoCap pipeline using marker-based & markerless systems
     

Learning Outcome: Proficiency in core software and pipeline tools through guided exercises and tests.

Module 3: Asset Creation & Pre-visualization
 

  • Storyboarding and concept design
     

  • 3D environment building and layout
     

  • Camera blocking and pre-animatics
     

  • Digital asset management
     

Learning Outcome: Create and present a pre-visualization package for a sample project.

Module 4: Real-World Studio Project
 

  • Students are embedded in a live studio project (short film, branded content, music video)

  • Collaborate with professionals from creative brief to delivery
